Amazon UPC Mismatch Error: Evidence and Fix Guide
Map the UPC owner, brand, product and existing ASIN before correcting an Amazon product-ID mismatch error without creating duplicate catalog records.
Identify the exact mismatch
Save the error code, submitted UPC or EAN, brand, manufacturer, marketplace, category and product title. Determine whether the error occurred during new-ASIN creation, an edit or a variation upload.
Search the catalog for the identifier and product. It may already be attached to another ASIN, brand spelling or product version.
Build the identifier record
The company prefix owner, brand owner and seller can be different entities, but their relationship may need to be documented. Do not alter product photos or records to hide that difference.
- Product packaging showing the barcode and branded item
- Identifier ownership or licensing record from the issuing source
- Manufacturer model, part number and product documentation
- Invoices connecting the seller's inventory to the product
- Existing ASIN and catalog history associated with the code
Choose correction, contribution or exemption
If the code belongs to an existing product, use the existing ASIN or correct its inaccurate field. If the product genuinely qualifies for an exemption, ensure the listing matches the approved scope. If the identifier record itself is wrong, resolve it at the source before resubmission.
Avoid creating multiple near-duplicate ASINs while testing alternatives. Preserve batch IDs and support responses for the correction history.
Verify the final product identity
After acceptance, check the brand, title, model, images and variations against the physical product. A cleared identifier error is not a successful fix if the detail page now represents a different item.
